Varna’s main New Year’s Eve party is free: a five-hour open-air concert on Nezavisimost Square, in front of the Opera, on Thursday 31 December 2026. If you want dinner, a dance floor and a bed under one roof, Golden Sands spa hotels about 17 km north sell three-night packages for 30 December to 2 January from roughly €258 to €862 per person (as of October 2026).
What’s on in Varna for New Year 2027?

Which Golden Sands hotels are open over New Year?
Most of Golden Sands closes in winter, but the hotels with indoor pools and spas run New Year programmes. Confirmed for 2027 as of October 2026:

International Hotel Casino & Tower Suites sold a half-board New Year package for 2026, and Astera, Allegra and Meliá Grand Hermitage appear in Visit Varna’s spa list, but we could not confirm a 2027 offer for any of them; ask before you plan around them. Some agencies, such as All Inclusive Travel, add a resort tax of €2 per person per day.
What about a “kuvert”? In Bulgaria a kuvert is the fixed price of a New Year’s Eve dinner with show and drinks. In the resort hotels it is included in the package; Varna restaurants usually publish their kuvert prices in November and December, so we will not guess them.
How do I get there from Romania or Turkey?
- From Bucharest by car: about 265 km via Giurgiu–Ruse, 4–5 hours. Buy a Bulgarian e-vignette before driving on. Details: Bucharest to Varna.
- By coach from Romania: Europa Travel runs a New Year coach on 30 December (Bucharest 06:00), back on 2 January; €55 return to Varna, €60 to Golden Sands with hotel transfer. Alltur and other agencies run similar coaches for 30 Dec–2 Jan.
- From Istanbul: about 460 km via Dereköy–Malko Tarnovo, or 7.5–8 hours by bus. This is an external Schengen border: passport, Schengen visa if your nationality needs one, and EES registration. See Istanbul to Varna and visa and entry rules.
Is it safe, and how do I get back after midnight?
The square is crowded but good-natured; keep valuables close and agree a meeting point. If you stay in Golden Sands, the bus link is thin in winter, so arrange a taxi back from the centre in advance or stay on site, where the hotels hold their own parties. Bring warm layers: midnight by the sea is cold and windy. Prices are in euros since 1 January 2026, so no currency exchange is needed.

As of October 2026, Hotel Elena sells its own New Year 2027 package, and Romanian agencies list 2027 packages at Arena Mar, Pliska, Vemara Beach and Grifid Noa. Astera, International, Allegra and Meliá Grand Hermitage had no 2027 offer we could confirm, so ask them directly.

Do I need a passport check driving from Romania to Varna?
No routine checks: Bulgaria and Romania have been full Schengen members since 1 January 2025 and land checks ended on 1 July 2025. Still carry your ID card or passport. From Turkey you cross an external Schengen border with passport, EES and customs checks.
