Published:

Varna’s spa scene is concentrated in St Constantine and Helena and Golden Sands, just north of the city, where hotels pump local mineral water that comes out of the ground at 40–60 °C (Visit Varna). The easiest way in is a day at Aquahouse Thermal & Beach in St Constantine: 14 mineral pools at 30–42 °C, open 08:30–20:30 every day, from €31 a day. Prices and opening times checked in October 2026.

Which spa hotels near Varna are open in winter?

Visit Varna counts 23 registered balneo, spa and wellness centres in the municipality, 16 of them in Golden Sands and 6 in St Constantine. Many Golden Sands hotels are summer-only, though, so in winter focus on:

  • St Constantine and Helena: Aquahouse Thermal & Beach (open daily) and Ensana Aquahouse, which sells Christmas and New Year packages. Azalia and Estreya also run medical spas; ask them for winter dates.
  • Golden Sands: the International Hotel, which advertises year-round opening, and Allegra (confirm dates). Third-party listings show Astera Hotel & SPA closed from October to April.
  • City centre: Maya Vita at the Rosslyn Dimyat hotel, open daily.

Can I go for a day without staying overnight?

Yes. Aquahouse Thermal & Beach is built for day visitors:

Ticket (adult) Mon–Fri Sat, Sun, holidays
Full day €31 €36
Up to 3 hours €25 €28
Child 6–13, full day €15.50 €18

Children under 6 enter free, and a water-zone family ticket (two adults, two children) costs €51 on weekdays. Towels cost €3, robes €6, and parking €2 an hour (free with a full-day ticket). Allegra advertises a pool-and-thermal “SPA day”, and Maya Vita sells subscription cards; ask about current prices.

What treatments can I get?

  • Balneotherapy: baths, pools and programmes in the warm mineral water, often aimed at joints and the musculoskeletal system. Ensana’s spring water is 46 °C and lightly mineralised (553 mg/l).
  • Black Sea mud: Estreya offers partial mud applications and full-body wraps, and Azalia lists mud therapy.
  • Saunas and salt rooms: almost every centre has a Finnish sauna and steam bath; Aquahouse, Allegra and Maya Vita add salt rooms.

Mineral water treatments have contraindications. Talk to your doctor first and follow the spa’s medical staff.

How do I get there by bus?

City buses 9, 31A and 409 link central Varna with St Constantine and Helena; a 60-minute ticket costs €1.00 from a machine or less in the TTickets app. Line 409 continues to Golden Sands only in summer, so in winter a taxi is simpler. Tips for a winter spa day

  • Go on a weekday: tickets are €5 cheaper and the pools are quieter.
  • Pack flip-flops and a swim cap if you plan to use the indoor pools.
  • Book massages and mud treatments ahead, especially around the holidays.
