Most Varna museums cost €3–10 and are open 10:00–17:00; the Archaeological Museum, home of the world’s oldest worked gold, is the priciest at €10 for adults. Since 1 October 2026 the city museums are on winter hours: the Archaeological Museum and the Roman Thermae close on Sunday and Monday, while the Ethnographic, Natural History and New History museums close at weekends. Children under 7 enter free, and tickets are sold only at the box office.

Prices come from the official price list of the Regional History Museum. Winter hours come from its 1 October 2026 notice and, for the Revival museum, Aladzha and Pobiti Kamani, from its 1 November schedule. Summer hours are the last ones the museum published, so check museumvarna.com in spring. Archaeology students pay €5 at the Archaeological Museum, and adults in groups of more than 15 pay €8 there or €3 at most other sites.

Who gets in free?

Children under 7 enter every Regional History Museum site free. Everyone gets in free on days set by an order of the Ministry of Culture or Varna Municipality; these are announced on museumvarna.com. Visit Varna says the Naval Museum, which is run separately, is free on the last Wednesday of each month.

Can I buy tickets online?

No. The museum says tickets are sold only at the physical box office and that it does not sell through its website or any outside platform, so ignore online “skip-the-line” offers for these sites. Bring a card or some cash in euro. Older websites may still quote prices in leva; the official list is now in euro.

What about the Naval Museum, Retro Museum and Aquarium?

These are not run by the Regional History Museum, so check their hours yourself. For the Naval Museum, Visit Varna lists €4.09 for adults and 10:00–18:00, closed Sunday and Monday; we could not confirm this on the museum’s own site. The private Retro Museum in Grand Mall lists €15 for adults and 10:00–19:00 daily. We found no official 2026 hours or prices for the Aquarium in the Sea Garden, so ask at the door.

Tips for planning museum days

  • Winter Mondays: choose the Ethnographic, Natural History or New History museums. Winter Saturdays: the Archaeological Museum and the Thermae.
  • Last year all Regional History Museum sites closed from 24 December to 4 January, so expect a similar break this winter.
  • Most city museums are a short walk apart in the centre and Greek Quarter; see our top 10 sights in Varna.
  • Read about the gold first in the Varna Necropolis, and plan the Stone Forest with a car. Paying in euro is explained in our euro money guide.

This page sticks to official hours and prices. For what visitors think of these museums, see Varna attractions reviews on our sister site Varna Now.
